The layout is the single biggest decision in any van conversion. It decides how you sleep, where you cook, and how much gear you can carry. Get it right and the van works for years. Get it wrong and you spend every trip wishing the bed was somewhere else.
Rear lounge: sociable and flexible
A rear lounge is our most popular choice. Two bench seats face each other at the back of the van, then drop down into a comfortable double bed at night. It is sociable, flexible, and easy to live with for weekends or longer trips. The trade-off is that you make the bed up each evening.
Fixed bed: always ready
A fixed bed stays made all the time. You sleep across or along the back of the van, and the space underneath becomes a full-height garage for bikes, boards and bulky kit. This suits people who travel with a lot of gear, or who do not want to rebuild the bed every night.
Garage bed: built for gear
A garage bed takes the fixed bed idea further. The sleeping platform sits high, leaving a tall, deep storage area below. If your trips revolve around mountain bikes, surfboards or expedition gear, this is the layout that carries it all.
How to decide
Think about how you actually travel before you choose. Count how many people sleep in the van, list the biggest items you carry, and be honest about whether you will make a bed up each night. Then match the layout to that reality, not to the prettiest photo.
